(KNSI) – Organizers say the inaugural St. Cloud Lights Festival shone brightly.

From December 1st to the 10th, almost 2,300 people walked the grounds of Spalt Park. The display consisted of $18,000 worth of decorations donated by sponsors and other partners. Interim Development Director Bill Corcoran says the festival raised $10,000 in total, including $3,000 for the playground renovation campaign and $7,000 for the St. Cloud Christian School.

Officials hope to add a new playground and remove the wading pool, which has sat unused for years. The total fundraising goal is $84,000. A link to donate is here.

When the renovations are completed, the school and the City of St. Cloud will enter into an agreement allowing it to have greater control over Spalt Park and use it for recess and other outdoor curriculum.

Corcoran says the festival impact goes far beyond financial considerations. He says the students and staff got to meet with countless neighbors and other residents, helping to raise awareness about the school itself.
