(KNSI) – A man drowned at Quarry Park Saturday evening, despite the best efforts of area fire departments, first responders, and law enforcement.

Stearns County Sheriff Deputies were called to Quarry #2 at 5:11 for a man who had dived into the deep water and never came back up. The Stearns/Benton Dive Team and Stearns County Sonar Team launched a rescue boat, using equipment to search for him.

The man was eventually located 40 feet below the surface. Officials have identified him as 23-year-old Ahmed Jarso of St. Cloud. Paramedics tried to revive Jarso once he had been brought on shore but were unsuccessful. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Also assisting at the scene were the Waite Park and St. Joseph Police Departments, Waite Park and St. Cloud Fire, and Mayo Ambulance.
