(KNSI) – Officials say two projects costing $12.8 million will connect residents in rural Benton County with high-speed internet.

The county is holding a broadband installation event on Tuesday in Foley to celebrate the projects. Once completed, more than 1,300 properties in Glendorado, Gilmanton, Maynard, Minden, and St. George Townships. Crews will be installing 378 miles of underground cable. The work should be done by the end of 2026.

Benton County prioritized connecting the area with high-speed service, allocating $3.1 million of its federal COVID relief funds for the project. The money came from the American Rescue Plan Act.

County officials say high-speed internet is essential for running a business, for people working from home, or for students needing access to school.

Tuesday’s event is at 11:00 a.m. at J&J Grain off Highway 23 in Foley.
