(KNSI) – State Representative Dan Wolgamott says the new K-12 Education budget that passed the house Wednesday gives him goosebumps.
The St. Cloud legislator expects the $2.2 billion bill to have a positive impact thanks to a hefty per-pupil increase in education that becomes tied to inflation beginning in 2026. St. Cloud Area Schools should see an allocation increase of over $11 million next year and $13 million the year after.
The budget partially addresses the special education cross-subsidy. It invests $662 million, which is significantly more than the 6.43% offset given currently. Wolgamott says it makes education work for everyone and is a big win for students.
Wolgamott says, “Providing schools and teachers with the resources they need – whether that’s properly funding special education, hiring additional support staff, or making education more inclusive – is a massive victory for our students and their futures.”
The bill has now been reconciled and passed both chambers. It heads to Governor Walz’s desk for signing.
