(KNSI) – The United Way of Central Minnesota is hosting a presentation on workforce housing Thursday, March 23rd, on the campus of St. Cloud State University from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Experts will go through data on the need for housing in the area, what impact a shortage has on the community as a whole, how it leads to problems for employers trying to recruit new workers, and how the issue affects employees as well. Economic developers, builders, politicians, business owners, and residents are encouraged to attend.
The event is being put on in collaboration with the SCSU School of Public Affairs, the Initiative Foundation, CentraCare Health, the St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Minnesota Builders Association. Registration is required. A link to do so is here.
A press release from United Way says a 2019 study estimates the city will need 5,000 new homes by 2040 to handle a growing population.
