(KNSI) — The alleged gunman in a drive-by shooting in St. Cloud in the summer of 2021 has been sentenced.
Judge Laura Moehrle sentenced Smith to just under four years in prison with credit for a year and a half already served in jail. In October, Ca’Mari Smith pleaded guilty to one count of committing a drive-by shooting in exchange for a charge of second-degree assault being dismissed.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called to a report of gunshots in the area of 9th Avenue South and 6th Street on August 22nd, 2021. Police say they spoke with a teen who said he was on his way to his aunt’s house when he saw a man he knew as Ce-Mo, identified in court papers as Smith, sitting in a vehicle. They said he motioned for him to come over to talk to him, but he said he kept driving, knowing Ce-Mo had been in an altercation with one of his family members earlier in the day and had damaged some of their property. The teen tried to drive away, but Smith followed him, pointed a gun out of the driver’s side window, and began firing at the victim. Police found seven shell casings at the scene. The teen was not hurt, but there was a mark where a bullet grazed his vehicle’s hood.
