(KNSI) — If your New Year’s Resolution is to get outside more often, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has a way to get 2023 off on the right foot immediately.
First Day Hikes are being hosted at 11 state parks across Minnesota on Sunday, including Mille Lacs Kathio State Park and Sibley State Park. Park Naturalist Sean Hoppes says you have plenty of options to choose from.
“Minnesota state parks in 2023 are offering a variety of First Day Hikes, from daytime walks to nighttime walks, winter mindfulness walks, and even snowshoe hikes.”
One of the snowshoeing for beginners events is at Kathio, which is limited to 25 people. Reservations are required, and contact information is available at this link.
The events are free, but Hoppes says you will need a day pass to park.
“You do need a daily $7 vehicle permit or an annual $35 vehicle permit to be in the parks. You can get these online ahead of time at or you can buy them at the park.”
