(KNSI) – Take steps to protect your packages from porch pirates as many online orders from the last week start to arrive.
Sartell Police Lt. Kelly Mader says this is the time of year when reports of stolen packages start coming in. “With Christmas coming around, and a lot of deliveries, this is typically the [time of] year when that kind of stuff picks up. And a lot of it is people driving around, and they see a package on a doorstep. And that’s when they take the opportunity to grab it.”
Mader says you can do a few things to help keep your deliveries safe. “Number one, make sure you have tracking on it so you know exactly when it arrives. And if you’re at home, try to retrieve it as soon as possible if it’s left at your front door. And along with that, you could put in some special instructions, if you want it to drop somewhere else, maybe a little more out of sight. Instead of being right at your front door where everybody can see it.”
He says you can also require a signature for delivery or send the packages to your workplace. Mader says doorbell and security cameras can help if a package is stolen.
