(KNSI) – Stearns County officials say its post-election review passed with flying colors.

The county audited the U.S. Representative and the governor’s race, and the precincts were randomly picked, according to Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer Randy Schreifels. “We recounted three precincts; Collegeville Township P1, St. Wendel Township P1 and Sauk Centre. The results for two of those were exactly the same as Election Day. In what was reported in Collegeville P1, there was one adjustment.”

Schreifels says the voter used an X to mark their candidates. “One of those Xs was outside the oval. So the machine counted that as an under vote because there was nothing in that oval. And then, when the election judges looked at that, they determined that that was a vote. The machine was accurate because the mark wasn’t in the oval, but it ended up adjusting the totals by one.”

The vote was added to Jensen’s total for governor. He says the one discrepancy was found out of approximately 5,000 ballots recounted.

The review process occurred at the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park on November 14th. Stearns County’s Collegeville Precinct 1 was one of 31 precincts from across the state selected for the statewide canvassing. Those results should be available in February or March.
