(KNSI) – Three area Lions chapters continue to inch closer to their fundraising goals to add inclusive playground equipment at Sartell Lions Regional Park, with another event scheduled for Friday.
G-Allen’s at 116 Evergreen Drive in Sartell is hosting a gathering from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. to aid the cause. There will be raffles for meat, a grill, and more. A silent auction is also scheduled.
The facility was built in 2004, but the proposed $400,000 renovations help ensure it is available to everyone, says LeSauk Lions member Matthew Lingle.
“If you remember when we were young, there was sand, there was wood chips. Well, that child that was in a wheelchair would have to sit on the side and wouldn’t be able to play with the rest of the children. This playground that we’re putting in is going to be a hard surface where wheelchairs and anybody with adaptive abilities will still be able to go and play with all the other children.”
Lingle appeared with KNSI’s Bob Hughes earlier this week.
Lingle talked about the teamwork involved between the LeSauk, Sartell, and St. Stephen Lions Clubs. He says the collaboration is going well.
“I’m so proud of each of these groups. It’s been really fun to do. Working with the donation committees, tapping the resources that we have in our community. This is something that basically is a regional need because there is not a park like this within 65 miles.”
The updates will ensure kids and adults of all abilities can play side-by-side.
