High School Football
Apollo took a young team on the road to the defending state champions Thursday night. The Eagles were grounded by the Hutchinson Tigers, 46-0. Hutch scored twice in the first quarter on runs by AJ Ladwig. The Tigers punched it in with 4:56 and 1:08 remaining.
The game got away from Apollo in the second quarter thanks to special teams plays. A long punt return by Levi Teetzel set up the third score of the night for Hutch with 6:48 left in the half. Alex Elliot punched it in from two yards out. On the ensuing drive, the Tigers forced a punt. Elliott made another huge play, blocking the kick. Ladwig fell on it in the end zone. The fourth consecutive two-point conversion led to a 32-0 margin at the break.
Hutchinson scored two more times in the third quarter and the best drive of the night fizzled out for Apollo with a fumble deep in Tiger territory. Apollo (0-1) has their next game on Friday, September 2nd at Willmar.
