(KNSI) — An 18-year-old man from Willmar allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol and consuming THC edibles before getting behind the wheel of his SUV and causing a fatal crash.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, investigators say Daniel Lohse was driving south on Highway 71 near Willmar when he hit a car driven by 52-year-old Dalia Zuniga head-on, killing her and seriously injuring her passenger.

The criminal complaint says troopers could smell alcohol on Lohse and his SUV, calling it “overwhelming.” He allegedly told firefighters he was “wasted” and was mumbling when asked for his name.

Lohse is charged with criminal vehicular homicide, criminal vehicular operation, driving while intoxicated and minor consumption.
