(KNSI) – Saint Cloud baseball redshirt freshman Luke Tupy is in rare company. The starter toed the slab in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Thursday afternoon and hurled a perfect game, one of the sport’s rarest feats. A perfect game occurs when a pitcher faces only 27 batters, the absolute minimum, without allowing a walk, hit, or having an opposing player reach base via an error.
The Huskies beat Northern State, 3-0, eking out enough offense to reward Tupy with the win. He improves to 4-0 on the season. Saint Cloud State took the second game of the doubleheader, as well, and runs its winning streak to 10 games.
There have only been 23 perfect games in Major League Baseball history. At the NCAA Division II level, Tupy’s gem raises the total to 28 for that specific tier of college competition.
The Huskies are back on the diamond this weekend against Bemidji State.
