(KNSI) – Masks are optional on buses throughout the Saint Cloud metro area. Metro Bus says it will continue to remind riders that face coverings are recommended by public health officials, but they are not required going forward.
A federal judge scrapped an order initially authored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in January of 2021, which mandated masks, on Monday. The CDC had enforced the rule in conjunction with the United States Department of Transportation and the Transportation Security Administration. It pertained to hubs like bus, subway, and train stations, airports, as well as the means of transportation themselves.
The TSA said it would no longer consider masks a necessity at airports late Monday and all major national airline carriers scrapped the requirement at roughly the same time. Some municipalities, like New York City, continue to enforce the policy on subways and buses. Uber, Lyft, and other ride-sharing platforms are not.
