(KNSI) — There will not be a new food and beverage tax implemented on bars, restaurants, and food delivery service customers in Sartell after the question failed during a special election Tuesday.
In a press release from Sartell, the unofficial ballot total was 462 to 232 against implementing a 1.5% food and beverage tax.
City officials say the tax would have let them get more money from the thousands of visitors to Sartell for various events. The tax would cost .75 cents on a $50 tab at a restaurant or bar, bringing in an estimated $300,000 per year to fund capital and operating costs for current and future recreational amenities in Sartell.
Vote totals are not considered official until they have been reviewed and certified by a canvassing board, which is the city council. The vote total will be canvassed at its February 14th meeting.
