(KNSI) – A St. Cloud man with a history of assault is accused of attacking his mother over a glass of juice. Police were called around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday to a home in the 2900-block of 19th Street South. A woman said her son, identified as John William Beuning, had just assaulted her.
The victim said her 43-year-old son sleeps in the basement, and she went to see if he had gone to bed and to bring him some juice because he has diabetes, and she was concerned about his blood sugar. She says he started yelling at her and told her he did not want any
juice and to go back upstairs. A short time later, she says he came upstairs and was angry and yelling at her because now he wanted some juice.
According to the criminal complaint, Beuning picked up a lamp and threatened to throw it on the ground and break it. He then allegedly put his mother “in a stronghold” and put a lot of force down on her shoulders and arms. She stated she did not think he was so strong, and it frightened her. She says Beuning would not let go and that she was trying to punch his arms and scratch his face to make him let her go.
He was allegedly holding her face down on the counter when she could get down and around him to run away. She says Beuning has threatened to kill himself in the past and believes he needs alcohol
treatment due to his violent outbursts. She was not sure if the Beuning had been drinking at the time.
Beuning told police that his mother woke him up by yelling and hit him “16 times in the face”. He said he held her down and told her that she was “stupid” and “other mean things” and then went back to bed. Officers did not observe any injuries on the defendant.
Beuning has been charged with one count of felony domestic assault. Bond was set at $25,000.
Beuning has had two previous domestic violence-related convictions in the last ten years. He was convicted for Domestic Assault in Stearns County in September 2015 and was convicted of assault in the Fifth Degree in November 2017.
