(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation is putting the final touches on the reconstruction plan for Highway 15 through Kimball.

Starting in April, crews will rebuild the road, curbs, and gutters, as well as upgrade underground sewer lines and utilities. The sidewalk along highway 15 will be extended, pedestrian approaches to sidewalks will be done, and overhead street lighting will be added.

The estimated 2.3 million dollar project will cause a detour on highway 15 in Kimball that officials estimate will add 18 miles to a trip through town. Sidewalks will be closed as well, but access will be maintained for businesses, visitors and residents.

Construction is planned to start in mid-April and finish in July.
