(KNSI) – Supply chain issues have forced the grand opening of St. Cloud’s new city hall to be delayed. St. Cloud planned to hold a community open house and its first meeting at the new site on January 24th.
St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says the city is waiting on connectors that allow all the technology in the building to work together.
“There’s some type of connectors that connect the fiber optics to make sure that the internet works, the media works, and of course, the phones work. And without that, none of those things work.”
He says most office supplies have been moved to the new building. St. Cloud is putting the finishing touches on the building, but a few things still need to be completed. The elevators should be installed in the next week or two. Kleis says the open house and first meeting will take place next month.
“We’re just pushing that back, Instead of the last meeting of January, it’ll be the last meeting of February. That’s when we’ll have the open house and hold the first council meeting there.”
In the meantime, St. Cloud is using the Stearns County Boardroom for its meetings. Residents can still use the first floor of the current city hall for their needs.
Last year, St. Cloud began renovating the former downtown Tech High School building to make it into the new city hall. Tech High School used the building from 1917 to 2019 before opening a new school on the south side of St. Cloud.
