(KNSI) – Flags will be lowered at half-staff again Wednesday in honor of a firefighter who died after getting COVID-19 in the line of duty.
Tintah firefighter Tim Kath passed away on December 31st. Tintah is a town with a population of about 60 in Traverse County. According to the fire department, Kath had been a firefighter for more than 16 years and left behind a wife and ten children.
Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday in remembrance of Kath.
“Firefighter Kath was a dedicated firefighter who was respected by his family, friends, and colleagues,” reads the proclamation issued by Governor Walz. “With its deepest gratitude, the State of Minnesota recognizes Firefighter Kath for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow Minnesotans, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and community.”
Individuals, businesses, and other organizations are also encouraged to join in lowering their flags.
On Tuesday, flags were flown at half-staff in honor of St. Joesph firefighter Andy Loso who also died from COVID-19 after getting the virus in the line of duty.
At the governor’s direction, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of a first responder in the line of duty.
