(KNSI) — A 33-year-old Minneapolis man has pleaded guilty to murder after fatally shooting a St. Cloud man outside a convenience store in March.
According to the criminal complaint, Ryan Decker was in Minneapolis helping a woman move when they went to get something to drink at the Stop and Shop in the 1700 block of East Lake Street the night of March 24th. As Decker was leaving the store, he brushed up against Chaz Stubblefield. Stubblefield told police he told Decker, “You can say excuse me,” and accused Decker of using a racial slur. He said Decker used the word again and either pushed or touched him.”
Stubblefield was accused of punching Decker in the back and following him outside. Decker denied calling him a name. That’s when Stubblefield spat in the 46-year-old Decker’s face and then shot him, tossing the gun in the river afterward.
Stubblefield was booked into the Hennepin County jail, where he is being held without bail. Sentencing is set for November 29th.
