(KNSI) – Mothers Against Drunk Driving and St. Cloud area law enforcement will be raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving on Saturday. Saturation Saturday is a nationwide event to get drunk drivers off the road. The highly visible campaign is meant to discourage drunk drivers.
MADD Spokesperson Meghan Carter says every death from drunk driving is a preventable tragedy.
“Each and every impaired driving crash, each and every individual who’s killed, injured survivors, each and every one of these crashes is 100% preventable. We know that they don’t have to happen.”
Police officers and deputies in Stearns and Benton Counties will be taking part in ‘Saturation Saturday’
On Saturday, the Minnesota State Patrol, MADD, and other law enforcement will hold a rally at 4 p.m. at the St. Cloud State Patrol headquarters. After the rally, police will head out on patrol, looking for intoxicated drivers.
She says MADD’s primary purpose is to work with the victims of drunk driving.
“Whether it’s emotional support, advocacy in the court system, supporting them in their healing journey is the heart and soul is what we do. So, every single time we work with a family, every time we work with a survivor, we’re there to provide them support and guide them in their healing journey.”
According to MADD, the group has provided supportive services to nearly one million drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge through local victim advocates since the organization was established in 1980.
Carter says MADD’s mission is to end drunk driving crashes and deaths. But the group isn’t against alcohol. The organization says they want people to be smart and choose a sober driver.
