(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 1,404 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday along with seven newly reported deaths from the novel coronavirus.
The latest report includes 112 new cases in the five-county St. Cloud area and one fatality: a Wright County resident who was in their late 80s.
Wednesday’s new cases around St. Cloud:
- Benton: 11
- Morrison: 6
- Sherburne: 25
- Stearns: 35
- Wright: 35
All deaths reported Wednesday occurred in August 2021.
Nearly 28,000 COVID-19 tests were processed on Tuesday, and 5.1 percent of those tests came back positive.
The number of Minnesotans needing hospitalization for COVID has increased again, with 576 COVID patients currently in hospitals across the state. That’s 29 more patients than reported Tuesday, and 160 of those patients are receiving ICU care. At St. Cloud Hospital, the number of COVID patients needing intensive care has doubled over the past two weeks, prompting the hospital to add more ICU space.
Meanwhile, Minnesota has officially crossed the milestone of having 70 percent of its 12-and-older population vaccinated against COVID with at least one vaccine dose. In total, 3,290,707 Minnesotans have received their first dose of the vaccine as of Monday, with more than 3 million now fully vaccinated after getting a second Pfizer or Moderna shot or the one-and-done Johnson & Johnson option.
