(KNSI) – A 20-year-old St. Cloud woman is behind bars in Ramsey County after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase with a nine-month-old baby in the car.

At about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, police say they spotted a car parked at a gas station on Little Canada Road. Officers attempted to speak with the driver, but they say she sped off, leading police on a chase on 35E, Highway 36, and Hamline Avenue, where she lost control of her car, crashed into a retaining wall, and rolled.

Deputies rushed to the car to help the woman and discovered the baby inside. They say the child appeared to be uninjured. The two were taken to a twin cities hospital for observation before the driver was arrested.

She is awaiting charges of fleeing police, criminal vehicular operation, child endangerment, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and she also has an outstanding warrant from Wisconsin for drugs.

KNSI does not typically name suspects until they have been formally charged.
