(KNSI) – Central Minnesota could be in for a bumpy ride Wednesday.

The Storm Prediction Center has the five-county St. Cloud area at a marginal risk for severe weather for Tuesday and a slight risk for Wednesday. A frontal system coming in, bringing with it temperatures in the high 80’s and dewpoints over 60, will create enough disruption in the atmosphere for some storms to fire Tuesday, likely east of the St. Cloud area. The severe threat really dies down after sunset.

There will be enough juice in the atmosphere Wednesday to trigger thunderstorms – some of which could be severe – that will form in the Dakotas before heading east into Minnesota. Exactly where is still up in the air. The National Weather Service’s forecast models showed the rain staying south along the border, but newer model runs have since moved that north.

There is an enhanced risk of severe weather Wednesday in Wright County down to the border and east to Wisconsin.

The area could see gusty winds, heavy rain, hail, and isolated tornadoes.
