(KNSI) – Step back in time at the Stearns History Museum this weekend and experience the homefront during World War II.

Home: A World War II Experience and At Ease: A World War II Evening will occur on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors to the daytime events will glimpse what life was like on the home front in Stearns County.

Museum Program Curator Caitlin Carlson says the war took over life in Central Minnesota.

“Everyone was fighting their own version of the war. Whether they were working in factories that had switched over from what they had done before to manufacturing plane parts. Everyone was making stuff for the war. Kids and families planted Victory Gardens. You have people collecting scrap rationing was a big deal. You couldn’t have as much coffee as you were used to or as much sugar. You had to take your ration books to the grocery store. It basically affected every part of your life.”

The evening will include trying your hand at rationing, learn about Victory Gardens, attend a WWII fashion show, and view the new exhibit about 33rd and Cooper Avenue.

Then on Saturday night, enjoy music and entertainment from the era.

The daytime event, At Home: A World War II Experience, runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 11.

Event admission for each day is $10 for adults; $5 for children ages 5-17.

Children of Museum members get in free.

At Ease: A World War II Evening, the Saturday night event, occurs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 10.

The cost is $35 per person. There’s also a ticket package for $50 that includes the entire weekend of events.
