(KNSI) – Students who attend a Minnesota State university or college will see higher tuition costs this school year.

The Minnesota State Board of Trustees approved the system’s budget on Wednesday, adding in an average 3.4 percent tuition cost increase across the system.

At St. Cloud Technical and Community College, tuition will be raised 3 percent from $168.57 per credit hour to $173.63 per credit hour. St. Cloud State University undergraduate students will see a 3.5 percent increase in their tuition.

Change in costs at SCSU by tuition type:

  • Each credit under 12 credit hours/semester: $297.82 increases to $308.24 (+$10.42)
  • Banded rate for 12-18 credits/semester: $3,807.80 to $3,941.08 (+$133.27)
  • Each credit above 18 credit hours/semester: $320 to $331.20 (+$11.20)

With this new rate, an SCSU student taking between 12 and 18 credit hours per semester will pay $266.54 more on tuition this year than they did last year.

The decision comes shortly after the University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved a 1.5 percent tuition increase.
