(KNSI) – A two-year-old boy pulled from a pond earlier this month has died.
Uriel Umzee Remi was pulled unresponsive from a pond at Lion’s Park in Ham Lake on June 12th. He was airlifted to Children’s Hospital, but the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office says Remi died Sunday.
Remi was one of two children who died as part of a tragic weekend on Minnesota waters. Nine-year-old Geoffrey Compton was celebrating his birthday at Carver Lake Beach in Woodbury on June 13th when he went missing. He was pulled out of the lake and rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Four other people also died that weekend in water-related accidents, including an 18-year-old St. Cloud man who jumped into the water at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve on June 12th and never resurfaced. Also on June 12th, a 46-year-old father died at William O’Brien State Park while playing with his kids. Witnesses at the scene say Chandra Mohan Laghuvaram bent over and never resurfaced. A Go Fund Me has been set up to help his family.
June 11th, a 34-year-old man died after being run over by a pontoon boat in Aitkin County. Nathen Waldo was boating with friends on Big Sandy Lake when he fell off the front of the pontoon. Investigators believe he was pulled under and then run over by the propeller. The pontoon driver, 34-year-old Joshua Harvey of Maplewood, has been charged for boating while intoxicated.
June 13th, Chad Holland was on a pontoon on Cedar Lake in Wright County when he jumped in to help some swimmers who were struggling nearby and never resurfaced. Several people assisted in finding Holland, who was pulled from the lake and was not breathing. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. Holland was 52.
