(KNSI) – During a meeting Monday, the St. Cloud City Council approved a plan to make improvements to two parks.
After putting park improvements on hold in 2020 due to the pandemic, the city will move forward with renovations at Centennial Park and Rotary West Park for parking, tennis courts, basketball courts and site furnishings. Lighting will also be installed at Rotary West.
It is unclear when those renovations will begin.
The council approved the general contractor that gave the lowest bid to do the job: Minnesota Paving & Materials for $592,604. The total cost of the projects is budgeted at $695,537, more than double what the city spent on park improvements in 2019. However, the city has $697,160 in its neighborhood park improvements budget to cover the project. Part of the cost is also offset by a $20,000 donation from the Rotary Club of St. Cloud.
The neighborhood park improvements budget balance comes from the 2018 sale of 18 acres of land in Heritage Park, letting the city put $1 million toward park renovations.
