(KNSI) – For many, a tasty way to cool off on a hot summer day is with a scoop of their favorite ice cream, and, just in time for summer, Explore Minnesota is kicking off the Minnesota Scoop, Minnesota’s Largest Ice Cream Social.

Alyssa Hayes with Explore Minnesota says Minnesota Scoop is a “fun, creative way to encourage people to explore the state. We hope they’re already out there doing that, taking road trips, [and] I think they are, they’re eager to head out this summer with their families.” She says, “savor the summer and check out some ice cream shops along the way.”

The Tour de Treat features nearly 100 ice cream shops across the state that have crafted their take on the summertime favorite. Hays says they are “really excited to see all of the interest and all of the creativity to come up with their own unique and special flavors. We’re seeing really, really fun flavor titles like tackle box and Mississippi mud; they’re all very unique to Minnesota.”

She says there were no specific parameters for crafting the flavors. She says there are quirky flavors, odes to Minnesota, and flavors unique to the theme of their shop.
