(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University lost in the NCAA National Championship game to the University of Massachusetts on Saturday night.

UMass dominated the game, scoring early and often to a 5-0 win.

2021 was the second time the Huskies made it to the Frozen Four and the first time they competed in the championship game.

At the watch party for students held at the Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom, Stephanie came out to support the team but left disappointed.

“I’m not usually a hockey fan, but they made it so far. We were really excited. Let down I guess.”

Emily also attends St. Cloud State and says it’s hard to take, but the team did its best.

“It’s disheartening. But I know a lot of time and effort goes in and the opponent, is really good. And that doesn’t mean they’re not good. Unfortunately, two really good teams made it and that’s just is what’s happened.”

It’s the first time UMass has won the title and the second time the team has been in the title game.
