(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Health confirms 2,553 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths statewide on Friday.
Of the newly confirmed cases, 303 were found in the five-county St. Cloud area. This includes 110 positive cases in Wright County. Wright has not reported more than 100 new cases in a day since December 12th, 2020.
- Benton County: 30
- Morrison County: 21
- Sherburne County: 67
- Stearns County: 75
Thursday marked the state’s first day reporting more than 2,000 new cases since mid-January.
More than 50,000 COVID-19 tests were processed in Minnesota on Thursday, and 5 percent returned positive results.
Health officials have been warning about the recent uptick in new cases believed to be caused by widespread transmission of more contagious variants, like B117.
Just like new COVID-19 cases, Minnesota’s vaccinated population is on the uptrend. Nearly 1.1 million people in Minnesota are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. About 600,000 others have received just their first dose so far. During the month of March, more than 1.3 million doses were doled out to Minnesotans.
