(KNSI) – CentraCare will distribute free colon cancer screening kits in the St. Cloud area as part of Colon Cancer Awareness Month.
People age 50 and older can get a take-home screening kit by calling the Coborn Healing Center (320-229-510) and scheduling a pick-up or by visiting the pharmacy drive-thru at St. Cloud Hospital.
The kit is an immunochemical fecal occult blood test, which can detect bleeding in the digestive tract, a possible indicator for cancer.
CentraCare says regular screening should start at age 50, especially if a patient has other risk factors, like a family history of cancer. A completed consent form is required if requesting a free kit at either CentraCare location, the health group says.
