(KNSI) – The cause of a house fire Saturday night is under investigation.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a passerby noticed a house on fire about two miles west of Spring Hill near Elrosa about 11:15. The person was knocking on the doors of the house and called 911.

When help arrived, flames were shooting through the roof of the home. Deputies tried putting out some flames near the roofline but realized they had spread throughout the interior of the home. Members of the Elrosa Fire Department were also on scene.

The homeowners say they had just bought the house and were about to do some renovations on it. It was empty when the fire broke out. According to a press release, the damage estimate is unknown, but it’s reportedly “significant.”

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and Elrosa Fire Department were helped out by Lake Henry Fire, Melrose Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.
