Update, 12:20 p.m. February 19th:
The St. Cloud Police Department has postponed the outdoor hockey practice and scrimmage due to inclement weather in the past week. The event will happen on Monday, February 22nd at 4 p.m. at Haws Park.
Original story, February 12th:
(KNSI) – Five St. Cloud police officers will square off against St. Cloud State University hockey players in a scrimmage next week.
The police department is planning the scrimmage as part of its Cop House Hockey youth program, which provides ice hockey equipment to area kids so they can learn to skate and stay active during the winter.
St. Cloud State’s hockey team is ranked 6th in the nation, and their scrimmage against the SCPD officers will happen at 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 16th at Haws Park.
Hot chocolate and snacks will be provided, and the university’s mascot Blizzard the husky will also be in attendance.
SCPD says it has partnered with Southside Boys and Girls Club, the Herb Brooks Foundation, CentraCare and SCSU for this scrimmage. Questions can be directed to Tyler Tabbatt at tyler.tabatt@ci.stcloud.mn.us or through the St. Cloud Rotary Community Outpost Facebook page.
