(KNSI) – Eligible Minnesotans can sign up for the very first appointments at Minnesota’s nine COVID-19 vaccination clinics at noon Tuesday.

Monday, Governor Tim Walz announced that the state will begin vaccinating people 65 and older, preK-12 teachers, school staff and child care workers. Doses remain limited as the state simultaneously vaccinates healthcare workers and long-term care residents without the federal government increasing the state’s weekly vaccine allotment.

Appointments can be made by visiting the state of Minnesota’s COVID-19 vaccine website, calling 612-426-7230 or calling the toll free line at 1-833-431-2053. New appointments will be available every Tuesday at noon.

The Minnesota Department of Health advises that educators and child care workers will be notified by their employer when it is their turn to sign up for a vaccine appointment.

One of nine clinics is located in St. Cloud, and all vaccination clinics are operating on an appointment-only basis. This week, only 12,000 doses of vaccine will be spread between the nine sites for distribution.

The state’s broadened vaccination effort comes with 922 new COVID-19 cases identified Tuesday. In the five-county area, there are 56 new cases. Out of 14,467 tests processed Monday, 6.4 percent came back positive.

Additionally, six more Minnesotans have died from COVID-19. None were from the St. Cloud area.
