(KNSI) – A Stearns County K9 officer has some new equipment thanks to a generous donation from a nonprofit organization started by a fifth-grader.

The sheriff’s office says its multipurpose K9 Rex now has a bulletproof vest to wear while he’s on duty. The vest costs $1550 and offers significant protection against firearms. It’s also specially designed so that Rex can wear it comfortably through his entire shift.

The money for the vest came from Brady’s K9 Fund, which was started by ten-year-old Brady Snakovsky. Brady couldn’t understand why all K9 officers weren’t wearing bulletproof vests. When he learned that K9s don’t automatically get one because they’re very expensive, he decided to do something about it and made it his mission to raise money for vests for K9 officers.

Brady is the CEO and Founder of the fund. The Chief Operating Officer is his mother, Leah, a mom to three, and a police officer’s wife.

Since Brady’s K9 Fund was started in 2018, they have donated 328 vests.
