(KNSI) – St. Cloud and Alexandria Technical and Community Colleges are two of the best in the country, giving central Minnesotans a set of excellent higher education options.

Alexandria ranks fifth out of 668 schools measured by personal finance website WalletHub. SCTCC finished 17th, while Alexandria was fifth. The schools have a placement rate, over 99%, which keeps loan default rates low and salaries high. Both are factors used by WalletHub in its career outcomes category.

The site looked at 19 components, broken down into three sections. Career outcomes were weighted against cost and financing, and education outcomes.

Community colleges offer an affordable way to get ahead. Tuition and fees for 15 credit hours average $3,037 per year at SCTCC. The nationwide average was about $3,860.

St. Cloud and Alexandria paced the Minnesota State system, which came in fifth overall in the U.S. It ranks behind New Mexico, Connecticut, Maryland and Oregon.
