City of Cold Spring Agrees To Purchase Lot For New Fire Hall

(KNSI) – The City of Cold Spring took a major step towards finding a new home for its fire hall at Tuesday’s council meeting.

The group went into a closed session to discuss an offer to buy a 1.08-acre lot at 109 Main Street. Administrator Kris Dockendorf says the council voted to approve a motion to enter into an agreement with Cold Spring, formerly known as Cold Spring Granite. It will still be a couple of months before the deal could close because of the need for an environmental study of the parcel.

“They [council] approved having an agreement with them [Cold Spring business] to accept their offer contingent on doing the phase two study with having Cold Spring to pay for it.”

Dockendorf says the city agreed to a price of $250,000 for the parcel. The company is paying for the Phase II Environmental Study. The city will also waive $32,953.76 in assessments still owed related to road work done recently, says Dockendorf.

“When you get assessed for an improvement you get assessed typically for like a 10 or 15-year period and so this is just the balance that is still owed from the initial assessment.”

She says if the agreement is finalized, the city will end its search for other potential fire hall sites. Dockendorf says it is still unknown where other public safety departments will move to.
