ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The St. Cloud Tech Tigers defeated the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles on Friday night.
Tech struck first as quarterback Nate Trewick found Trent Meyer for a touchdown.
Eagles wide receiver Jonh Sithamat returned the ensuing kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown and tied the game at 7.
The Tigers dominated the rest of the 1st half and scored 28 straight points. Brevyn Spann-Ford made a miraculous one handed catch in the endzone to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead. James Kaczor scored touchdowns on consecutive drives to put the Tigers up 28-7.
Late in the 2nd quarter, Scott Kippley caught a screen pass and took it 29 yards for a touchdown to give the Tigers a 35-7. Apollo added a field goal right before halftime and Tech went into the locker room with a 35-10 lead.
In the 3rd quarter, James Kaczor once again found the end zone and put the Tigers ahead 42-10. Kaczor scored three touchdowns and was named the All-Star Trophy and Awards Player of the Game.
Keon McCray scored a touchdown for Apollo in the 4th quarter but it wasn't enough as the Tigers came away with a 42-16 victory.
With the win, Tech improves to 1-0 on the season. They are on the road taking on Brainerd next Friday night. The KNSI Sports Network will broadcast that game live with coverage beginning at 6:45.
With the loss, Apollo falls to 0-1 on the year. They travel to Rocori to battle the Spartans next Friday night.
