ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI)- The St. Cloud Tech Tigers defeated the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles in the Section 5AAA Championship.

Apollo struck first in the top of the 1st inning. Joey Atkinson's RBI sac fly gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, Chris Backes scored on passed ball to tie the game. Ethan Hopper drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Austin Nikolas lined a single past the Eagles infield which allowed Drew Bulson to score. Nikolas later scored on Nick Schmitt's RBI single to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

Neither team scored the rest of the game and the Tigers came away with a 4-1 win.

Tigers starting pitcher Logan Aleshire was dominant. He went 7 innings giving up only 1 run and struck out 10 Eagle batters. For his efforts, he was named the All-Star Trophy and Awards Player of the Game.

During section play, the Tigers outscored opponents by a combined score of 28-2.

The Tech Tigers are this year's Section 5AAA Champions and advance to the State Tournament. They will play in the State Quarterfinals on June 15th at Siebert Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. KNSI will broadcast that game live.
