(KNSI) – Following a star-studded group of seniors is never really easy but this week’s spotlight shines on someone that worked hard and would have continued to make a name for herself.

Tasked with the tall order of starting at shortstop, Lindsey Dvorak was poised to lead the Spartans back to the Section-5AAA Championships and possibly to state.

Dvorak’s infectious personality showed immediately when she discussed her lack of a season with the Saturday Sports Special crew this past weekend.

Head coach Brian Athmann nominated Dvorak for “All-Star” status due to her .333 batting average and what he expected out of her this season.

“I was really sad for the whole team that this Covid-19 shut us down. I was especially sad for Lindsey. Voted captain by her teammates in the off season, she was one of the most dedicated on the team. She really worked hard this off season planning to have that breakout season to be noticed by a college coach and play college softball. She was constantly hounding me for advice, drills and workouts to prepare her for her Senior year. What I seen from her in the off season and our one short week to the season, she was destined to have that much deserved break-out year.”

Dvorak plans on playing softball at Northwestern College in St. Paul next season and coach Athmann knows she will be up to yet another tough task.

“Lindsey is one of those hard working athletes on your team that you never have to question. She comes early, leaves late. She leads by example and isn’t afraid to work hard.”

It’s seniors like Lindsey that give the area much more than we deserve; KNSI and Leighton Broadcasting patiently await what they all have in store for us in the future.
