(KNSI) – Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl Anthony Towns says his mother is in a medically induced coma fighting COVID-19.

In an emotional video posted to his Instagram account, he said he was told his parents weren’t feeling well early last week. He told them to get immediate medical attention.

He said she kept getting worse, and the hospital was doing everything they can, but she wasn’t getting better.

Towns says his mother’s fever kept going from 103 to 101, and then immediately spike back up. Her lungs were getting worse, and her cough was getting worse, and he says she was “deteriorating daily.” After a few days, he said she appeared to be on the mend and was feeling great, and they thought maybe she had turned a corner, but then things went “sideways,” and they “went sideways quick.” Towns says her lungs were getting worse; she was having trouble breathing and needed to be put on a ventilator.

His father is under mandatory quarantine at their home and has shown no symptoms.

He said it has been a very difficult time for his whole family, adding he is trying to stay positive, but begged viewers to take care of themselves and think of others, adding, “This disease needs to not be taken lightly. Please protect your families, your loved ones, your friends, yourself. Practice social distancing; please don’t be in places with a lot of people. This disease is deadly.”

He said his mom is the strongest woman he knows, and Towns says he knows she will beat this and said he will “rejoice” when she does.
