(KNSI) - The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders looked impressive against Fergus Falls on Tuesday night, winning 5-0 in the season opener.
The Crusaders scored within the first 5 minutes of the game, and that set the tone for the rest of the 1st period as they scored once more before going into the second intermission.
There were several penalties from both teams in the second period, but it did not effect the Crusaders. Not only did they kill all of the Otters' power plays, but junior forward Jackson Savoie scored a shorthanded goal late in the period. Senior Forward James Anderson scored as well on the power play, giving the Crusaders a commanding 4-0 lead going into the 3rd period.
CJ Zins added a goal for the Crusaders in the 3rd period, and the Otters were not able to get anything going.
Goalie Noah Amundson earned the shutout.
Jackson Savoie was selected as the All Star Trophy and Awards player of the game with 2 goals for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders made it to the state tournament last season, defeating East Grand Forks before losing to Hermantown in a thriller.
Cathedral then beat Northfield in the 3rd place game.
The next game you will hear on KNSI will be on Thursday night when St. Cloud hosts River Lakes at 7pm.
