(KNSI) - The Cathedral Crusaders fell to the Hermantown Hawks 6-2 on Friday, ending their run in the state tournament.

Hermantown struck first early in the first period. Cathedral goaltender Grant Martin had a tough time keeping up with the lighting fast shots.

The Hawks struck again before the end of the 1st period, and they took a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

A several player brawl broke out on the ice after the buzzer which sent 3 Hawks players and 5 Cathedral Players to the penalty box to start the second period.

Hermantown scored again midway through the second.

Finally, near the end of the period, Nate Warner scored a goal for Cathedral to get them on the board.

Hermantown took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, Cathedral got an early power play and took advantage of it. Ethan Cumming scored to make it 3-2.

A few minutes later, the Hawks got that goal back with a 3 on 2 play in front of the Cathedral net, making it 4-2 with 7 minutes to play.

With 2:45 to play, Hermantown scored another goal which was the nail in the coffin.

With 2 minute to play, Hermantown scored an empty net goal.

Hermantown's Goaltender Jacob Backstrom was selected as the All Star Trophy Player of the Game with 19 impressive saves and only 2 goals allowed.

Cathedral will play for 3rd place tomorrow morning at 9am.
