(KNSI) - One can imagine that in order for a team to make it the the MSHSL State Tournament, said team would need amazing play from their quarterback.

The Rocori Spartans have received just that from their star quarterback, Jack Steil the past couple weeks and are headed the state because of it.

Steil has been consistent the entire season but has turned it on during the Spartans' Section 8-4A Championship run.

During the regular season, Steil compiled over 1,200 yards passing and rushing combined, while adding 11 total touchdowns.

Steil then turned on the rushing during the two playoff games he played by rushing for 310 yards and four touchdowns.

Not only has Steil been lighting up the stat-sheet offensively, he also was credited with two tackles-for-a-loss and eight total tackles during the Section 8-4A Championship against Detroit Lakes.

During the section playoffs, Steil's efforts helped Rocori to a 30-0 win against Grand Rapids and a 14-6 win against Detroit Lakes for the championship.

Although most would think Steil's stats would be tough to duplicate the rest of the season, head coach James Herberg believes his quarterback was built to sustain this type of success.

"[Jack's] just a horse, he really is, there is no way to better describe it, he is just a stallion out there. He steps up; the moment's never to big for him and that's why he is gonna be a success when he leaves Rocori High School."

After all is said and done, Steil will head to Nebraska to play Division-I baseball but the Spartans hope there is plenty more football to be played before that takes place.

Rocori plays their first game in the MSHSL Class-4A State Tournament Friday at 7:00 p.m. at SCSU's Husky Stadium against Delano; that game can be heard on the KNSI Sports Network.

The Spartans faced Delano earlier this season and defeated them 27-7 behind three total touchdowns from Steil.

Congratulations, Jack and good luck to you and the Rocori Spartans at state and beyond!
