(KNSI) - In a world that consistently shows us the darker side of human nature, it is always nice to be able to witness displays of what the human spirit and hard work can accomplish.
This week's winner is the perfect example of what determination and an overall delightful spirit can accomplish.
Abby Weber of Sartell Gymnastics not only exudes the type of behavior most love to see in a gymnast but in a human being.
Along Weber's four-year varsity gymnastic's path, she became the Sartell High School Gymnastics Record Holder in vault (her reaction to finding out is very bottom photo below) with a 9.8 and in all-around with a 38.375.
Just last weekend, Weber added a fifth place in the All-Around MN State Gymnastics Meet and a third place medal for vault.
Although her scores are amazing, it's the abundance of joy she shows while competing that makes her a crowd favorite.
The individual accolades accumulated throughout the senior's gymnastics career include four-time varsity starter and two-time captain.
Weber was also awarded last year's St. Cloud Times Gymnast of the Year in the 2017-2018 season.
Along with Weber's accomplishments of becoming the section's individual all-around champion three of the last four years, she has been crowned the Central Lakes Conference Champion two of her four years.
Being able to define one's self with that many individual accolades would make most people happy but the smile shown by Weber after her team clinched second place at the MN State Tournament showed just how proud she was in her team's effort.
The Sartell Gymnastics Team adopted the motto "Be Brave" due to Weber's father passing away in July of 2018.
It's an event that head coach Tyler Labonne says made Weber into the person she is during and away from competition.
"It adds a lot to Abby's story when you know the person she is out of the gym as well."
Not only were Weber and the team "brave" throughout the season, they set a Sartell High School Gymnastics Team record with a score of 148.225.
The team dealt with personal adversity like Weber and injuries throughout the season making their motto and their achievements truly admirable.
Weber has yet to choose which college she will attend next year but she is considering the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Wisconsin-Stout, and Mankato State University.
It is quite evident that whichever college she attends, Weber will continue with the same positive attitude and determination that have brought her to where she is today.
Congratulations, Abby and good luck to you in your future endeavors!
