(KNSI) - The Stearns County Parks Department offers excellent trails for folks looking to enjoy outdoor winter activities.
"Quarry park is our main one. We have four miles of lit ski trails," said Sarah Weed, Park Operations Coordinator.
Quarry Park and Nature Preserve offer skate ski and classic tracks for cross country skiers with lit trails from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
"For difficulty level, I would saw Quarry is perfect for beginners."
Warner Lake County Park and Mississippi River County Park offer ski trails similar to the Quarries. More advanced skiers can twist and weave around 265 acres of sharp turns and large hills at Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park.
Kraemer Park has a grant-in-aid cross country ski trail, and skiers are required to have the Great Minnesota Ski Pass with them. A daily pass costs $6, and an annual pass costs $20.
The parks also have multiuse trails for other winter activities.
"You can hike, you can snowshoe, you can bring your leashed dogs, some people have brought their sleds to bring their kids around. Anything can go on the multiuse trails except for skis because we have the ski trails."
Lake Koronis Regional Park is another hot spot for winter activities, including Fat Tire Bicycle trails.
The trails are groomed after every significant snowfall.
Quarry Park is open every day from 8 a.m. to half an hour past sunset. Mississippi River, Warner Lake, Lake Koronis and Kraemer Parks are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. year-round.
