(KNSI) - Governor Tim Walz wants to remind Minnesotans that discrimination, even in times of emergency, is unacceptable.

The governor said in a call Wednesday that he has received reports of increased discrimination and hate crimes toward Asians and Pacific Islanders as a result of COVID-19.

"That community is integral as any one of us to Minnesota. They're part of who we are," says Walz adding, "this is not who we are. Rare or not, one time is too many."

Walz encourages those who believe they have been a victim of discrimination or a hate crime to find support. The Minnesota Department of Human rights accepts complaints on its website or via phone at 651-539-1133 or 1-800-657-3704.
