UPDATE 7:30 p.m. - The mother of a child taken to a Twin Cities hospital with severe injuries after a semi-truck hit their vehicle in Sauk Rapids says he's expected to survive.

The state patrol says Molly McCann was driving on County Road 29 crossing Highway 15 around 11:40 a.m. on Monday when a semi ran a stoplight and hit her passenger car carrying her and her sons.

Seven-year-old Colin McCann of Sartell was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Molly told KNSI News through a family friend that he was rushed into emergency surgery on Monday afternoon and is expected to survive.

The child has suffered multiple broken bones including his hips and femur.

Molly and her other son Ethan were rushed to St. Cloud Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The semi driver, 32-year-old Yussuf Ahmed Mohamud, of St. Cloud, wasn't hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.

(KNSI) - A child was taken to a Twin Cities hospital with severe injuries after troopers say a semi ran a stoplight Sauk Rapids hitting the vehicle he was in.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the semi hit the passenger car around 11:40 on Monday morning on Highway 15 at County Road 29.

According to the accident report, seven-year-old Colin McCann, of Sartell, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

He was a passenger in a 2009 Mazda CX9 driven by his mother, 37-year-old Molly McCann. His brother, five-year-old Ethan McCann, and Molly were both taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The semi driver, 32-year-old Yussuf Ahmed Mohamud, of St. Cloud, wasn't hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.
