(KNSI) - Tuesday, October 6th marks the 37th Annual National Night Out.

The National Association of Town Watch sponsors national Night Out. Its website, National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and strengthen police-community relations to send a message to criminals they are not welcome.

Starting at 5:00, residents are encouraged to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening not only with their neighbors but also with local law enforcement and other officials, who will be visiting events around town. St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says strong neighborhoods are vital.

“Strong neighborhoods start with that relationship building; people getting to know their neighbors. We can all benefit from people looking out for each other. And it’s that partnership with public safety; that is our city’s top priority, public safety.”

Mayor Kleis and St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson are just two of the local city officials joining block parties across the city.

National Night Out is usually celebrated the first Tuesday in August but was postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
